Our approach

Beyond the search results

We choose places that are easy to miss if you’re only searching online — neighborhood restaurants, standing bars, market stalls, and local favorites with real character. Each stop is selected through local experience, not algorithms.

Private, flexible, personal

Every tour is for your group only. No strangers, no fixed script, no rushing from place to place. We move at your pace and adjust the experience around your interests, appetite, and mood.

Stories, context, and care

Food becomes more meaningful when you understand the people, culture, and traditions behind it. Your guide handles the details — from ordering and translation to recommendations — so you can simply relax, taste, and enjoy.

Meet the founder

Haruka

Founder & lead guide

Haruka

Haruka was born and raised in Tokyo, and has spent more than 30 years living, eating, and exploring the city. Her love for Tokyo’s food culture comes from years of wandering through neighborhoods, talking with people, and returning to the small places that make the city feel alive.

The idea for Tokyo Food Story was shaped by her own travels in Europe, where language barriers often made it difficult to reach the truly local side of a city. That experience inspired her to create a bridge for travelers who want to experience Tokyo more deeply.

With a background in UX design and marketing, and experience across education, wine trade, and regional revitalization projects in Japan, Haruka designs each tour as more than a meal — a personal, local, and human experience of Tokyo.
